Summary: |
The study has been conducted in nurseries of The V.M.Remeslo Myronivka Institute of Wheat and other organizations in 1987-2001. It has been shown that in the wide range of winter wheat entries, they are actually resistant to eight groups of pest insects on condition that the entries are grown at proper cultural practices. Damage due to pest insects or density of them do not exceed the threshold of damage. The resistance is provided by such types as tolerance, evasion, and antibiosis. It has been noted advisability of separate evaluation of the current and potential resistance. The current one is evaluated on the base of real damage or density of pest insects. Because sometimes outbreaks of pest insects occur, it is need to evaluate wheat resistance for such a situation in advance. The potential resistance is evaluated by registration of expression of plant traits, which serve as factors of their resistance to pest insects. They are used as markers of it. The evaluations by above-mentioned methods allow the author to select of a number of winter wheat entries with multilateral resistance to eight groups of pest insects at their outbreaks. Factors of the resistance occurred to be the valuable traits of diverse significance for a variety. Therefore, an increase of expression of the factors at breeding would promote further improvement of wheat varieties. |
