The development of foreign economic relations of Ukraine under the integration of the national economy into the world economic space goes through the examination of the laws of foreign
economic activity, through the ability of taking into consideration the changes in the world market condition, through mastering professional skills in this extremely important field.
It is possible to satisfy this urgent need by the accelerated training of professionals, sound scientific support of various directions of the foreign economic policy of our State. The Decree of President of Ukraine of 30th of May, 1995 #403/95 "About the Creation of the Ukrainian Academy of Foreign Trade" has become the response to the objective necessity. The Ukrainian Academy of Foreign Trade is a special higher educational and research institution, has modern material and technical basis and appropriate academic staff.

Academic Unit There are two faculties within the Academy.

Faculty for Training Masters of International Management.
Faculty for Retraining and Advanced Training.

The main direction of the academic activity is to train
Masters on Foreign Economic Activity who have higher education and
to improve skills of employees of ministries, other bodies of
State authority, Trade and Economic Missions, enterprises,
institutions, organizations - subjects of foreign economic
activity. According to this the Academy trains masters of
international management on the speciality "Managment of Foreign
Economic Activity". The Academy retrains specialists on the
specialities:

Managment of Foreing Economic Activity,Marketing,Accounting and Audit, giving them the second igher education. Advanced training is carried out for the following categories of specialists:
civil servants of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade of Ukraine and other ministries and agencies of Ukraine involved in foreign economic activity of Ukraine;
officials of Ukrainian Trade and Economic Missions abroad;
workers of public, joint-stock and private enterprises and organizations involved in foreign economic activity.

In addition to highly skilled permanent lecturers, well-known researchers and practical workers, including foreign ones, are invited for giving lectures and providing special courses. This creates opportunities for studing special cases and searching optimum solutions of foreign economic problems.
Today the representatives of 10 Ministries of Ukraine and almost all regions study at the Academy according to state contracts. After graduating from the Academy they will occupy leading positions at the institutions that sent them to the Academy.
Many students of the Academy are representatives of young Ukrainian business: banks, joint-stock companies, firms and enterprises. They study at the expenses of their firms and banks. There is a post-graduation course where researchers are trained for obtaining a degree of Candidate of Science, Economics.
In september, 1998, the Academy start to train bachelors on the specialities:

management of Foreign Economic Activity;
International Law.

Both full- and part-time study courses will be realized in the Academy. The study duration is from 4 years (for full-time students) till 4 years and 9 monthes (for part-time students). The
persons who graduated from the secondary school will be invited to enter the Academy. Foreign students must cover the cost of education (apr. 1.200$ per year).

Research Unit

There are Divisions for Governmental Regulation of Foreign Economic Activity, Forecasting of Foreign Economic Processes and Foreign Economic Information, Methodological Problems of Foreign
Economic Activity, Governmental Regulation of Domestic Trade within the research unit of the Academy. They conduct investigations on the problems of the world economy and foreign economic relations, marketing researches of external and internal markets, look for the ways of improving economical relations with foreign partners, etc.
The researchers and academic staff of the Academy take part in a number of international programmes.
The Academy has established contacts with research and academic institutions of Germany, USA, Russia, other countries, conducts joint workshops, conferences, invites foreign specialists
for giving lectures, conducts in-service training of workers and students of the Academy in foreign centers.
