OF NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF UKRAINE
Institute of Electrodynamics National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine connects its history with the creation of Power engineering institute in 1939 wich main scientific directions in the field of efficiency and reliability increase of electrical systems became a basis of scientific activity of the Institute of Electrodynamics.
Two institutes were created in 1947 on the basis of power engineering institute one of wich is the Institute of electrical engineering renamed in 1963 into the Institute of Electrodynamics of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
In different years scientific body of the institute has been led by the prominent soviet scientists Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences V. M. Khruschov (1939 1941), Academician S.A. Lebedev (1947 1952), corresponding members of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences A.D. Nesterenko (1952-1959) and A.N. Milyah (1959 1973). Since 1973 the Institute of Electrodynamics is led by the prominent scientist in the field of electrical and power engineering Academician of National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine A.K.Shidlovsky.
Principal scientific directions:
Conversion and stabilization of electromagnetic energy parameters;
Efficiency and reliability increase of electromechanical energy conversion processes;
Informative measuring systems and metrological control in power industry;
Analysis, optimization and automation of electrical power systems modes and their elements;
Complex power systems with renewable power sources.
A series of scientific schools and directions wich play an important role in the development of electrical power engineering and electrical engineering is formed in our country during the existence.
Institute holds leading positions in the country in the field of conversion and stabilization of electromagnetic energy parameters.
Later on works in this direction were continued by the prominent scientists Academician NAS of Ukraine A.K. Shidlovsky, corresponding members NAS of Ukraine V.G. Kuznetsov, 1.V. Volkov, B.P. Borisov, doctors of sciences K.A.Lipkovsky, V.A.Barabanov, N.N. Yurchenko, Yu.P. Emets, I.V. Mostovyak, A.D. Muzytchenko, V.S. Fediy, E.M. Tchehet, M.S. Komarov, V.N. Isakov, A.F. Kolesnichenko, V.B. Pavlov, A.A. Scherba, candidates of sciences Yu.I.Drabovitch, V.S. Masloboischikov, etc.
Bases of stabilization theory of electric energy parameters in multiphase systems with non-stationary elements are created in the institute: construction principles of multifunctional devices wich provide electric energy quality increase, its efficient conversion and utilization are developed.
Synthesis and analysis methods of structures of power corrective devices with the minimum number and determined elements power are proposed.
One of investigation directions wich are conducted at the institute is connected with elaboration of theory and methods of optimum control of power networks modes and systems with power asymmetric, non-linear and quickly variable distortion sources: with creation of efficient methods and devices providing electromagnetic compatibility of equipment (including electronic one) in the systems of general and independent power supply.
A serious attention is paid to investigation of electrophysical problems in technological processes, creation of optimum systems of electrotechnological installations supply providing the given parameters of electric energy quality in power supply and electrotechnological systems wich permit to make a flexible reconstruction of system programs according to demands of automated control systems of technological processes.
Construction principles of efficient voltage converters fulfilled on the basis of low voltage power transistor matrices.
The theory is created and construction principles of stabilised current are developed on the basis of resonant and non-resonant inductive capacitive converters with pulse and linear semiconductor regulators.
Rational ways of increase of high-speed of response and accuracy of converting devices of alternating voltage are determined on the basis of transformer-switch executive structures wich have improved parameters of output energy and possibility to provide electromagnetic compatibility of converter and using equipment.
Theory and calculation methods of extreme magnetic fields and currents are created. The conducted theoretical investigations on the above-mentioned direction permitted:
to create a complex of multifunctional devices of parameters stabilization of electromagnetic energy in the systems of general and autonomous electric power supply;
to prepare a serial production of filter-balancing devices wich provide electromagnetic compatibility of electronic equipment in the networks of 0,22/0,38 kV, and also devices for currents voltages balancing and compensation of reactive power in the networks of 6/10 kV with power electrothermal installations;
to elaborate scientific-founded recommendations on standardization, correction and optimum control of electric energy quality parameters in power networks and systems wich are used in state standard of electric energy quality and normative-technical instructions on reactive power compensation;
to create high efficient systems of magnetodynamic installations supply for flexible automated casting complexes under the pressure and induction furnaces for melting and measured metals casting;
to elaborate a series of high reliable tranzistors intended for utilization in devices of power converting engineering, in power supply systems of airborne technological sets of space vehicles, in electric drives of different purpose, in electric welding units;
to elaborate a series of cheap high-reliable transistors wich are intended for utilization in devices of power conversion facilities, in secondary supply sources, in electric drives of different purpose, in electric welding equipment;
to create a series of secondary electric supply sources for solid state technological lasers wich found a wide application in different branches of national economy ;
to elaborate secondary sources for electro and radio electronic equipment supply with improved compatibility; to create a number of converters of different functional purpose with optimum parameters and characteristics;
elaborate calculation methods of electric strength of non-isothermic discharge gaps wich permit to determine break down voltages of different gases at given temperatures of electrodes and space orientation of gap.
Investigations on electric motor car creation began in 1970-th under the leadership of Academician of NAS of Ukraine A.K. Shidlovsky and doctor of sciences V.B. Pavlov. A unique traction electrical equipment family of high-efficient transistor traction converters, microprocessor control systems providing optimum conditions of a drive operation has been elaborated and created here for the first time.
The first Ukrainian electric motor car has been awarded the State number mark as early as 1995. Five electric motor cars of the Institute of Electrodynamics successfully go along the streets of the city.
Institute conducts fundamental investigations of electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical processes in the new types of generators. The scientific school is created under the leadership of corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences I.M.Postnikov (1906 1990) and Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences G.G. Schastlivy. This school successfully continues investigation of physical and technical problems of electromechanical energy conversion, creation of modern electromechanical systems, development of new turbogenerators for power stations, provision of necessary reliability level of such kind systems.
The following scientists work in this field: doctors of sciences A.A. Voitekh, A.1. Lischenko, V.A. Barabanov, A.N. Kravchenko, candidates of sciences V.T. Chemeris, A.1. Titko, Y.M. Fedorenko, V.P. Vygovsky, V.A. Lesnik, V.I. Kislenko, P.F. Verbovoi, A.A. Afonin, etc.
Theory, methods of complex simulation of electromagnetic and thermal fields in power turbogenerators of the new types and also the first in the world asynchronized turbogenerator ACTG 200 with a high level of reliability and load capacity of stator end zones in operating modes on Burshtynskaya hydroelectric station are elaborated.
Theory , construction and calculation methods of high efficient electromagnetic screens of electric machines and apparatus are developed.
Algorithms and calculation program of electromagnetic field and parameters of ferromagnetic file of different configuration are created. Optimization principles of parameters and characteristics of massive ferromagnetic rotor are proposed.
Theory of rotating multistage electrodynamic systems with three and two degrees of free rotor motion is created. Scientific problem of analysis and synthesis of electromagnetic structures of multistage rotating systems is solved.
Calculation methods of electromagnetic fields and losses in power transformers are elaborated.
On the basis of elaborated theories and methods scientists of the institute created the following:
complex of calculation programs of thermal fields, recommendations on designing and physical modelling of turbogenerators with water cooling, electric machines filled with liquid and immersed electric motors;
new types of asynchronous electric motors and electromechanical systems with improved mass-gabarit, technological, dynamic and vibration acoustic characteristics;
new types of autonomous power installations on the basis of asynchronous generators with capacitive and rectifier excitation;
calculation methods of autonomous systems modes with asynchronous generators;
serial output of high reliable turbogenerators of a new generation of 200 and 300 mW power;
contactless small-size speed electric machines and devices for electric drive;
packet of calculation programs of electromagnetic fields and power characteristics of pulse electromagnetic converters of different types;
electromachine generators of periodical current pulses;
multifunctional control system of operational modes of synchronous machines of small and average power.
The Institute takes a leading plece in Ukraine in the field of analysis, optimization and automation of electric power system states and their elements.
The founder of this direction was the prominent soviet scientist Academician S.A.Lebedev (1902 1974), whose classical works on electric systems investigation were widely developed in the institute. His studies were continued by doctors of sciences L.V.Tsukernik, I.M.Sirota, Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences B.S. Stogniy, corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences V.G. Kuznetsov, doctors of sciences A.V. Kirilenko, V. N. Avramenko, candidates of sciences O.M.Kostjuk, L.I.Buslov, etc.
Scientific body of the institute guided by Academician S.A.Lebedev in 1949-1951 created the first on the European continent electronic computer "MESM". Institute took the lead in development in the USSR of works on computers untilization for investigation of complex power systems modes.
A wide complex of works on investigation of static and dynamic stability of complex power systems, development of calculation methods of normal and emergency operations is made under the leadership of doctors of sciences L.V. Tsukernik and 1. M. Sirota.
Development of methods, models and integrated problems software of analysis, optimization and control of normal,transitive, emergency and post emergency states of supplying and distributive power networks of power systems is successfully conducted.
Works on creation of automatic and protection systems of electric power systems elements received a further development. Theory of primary transducers is developed. A special attention is paid to works on creation of microprocessor integrated control systems by big electric substations and distributive devices of electric stations. Theory and construction principles of new generation of automatic, relay protection and diagnostics systems of electric power objects on the basis of computer facilities means application are developed.
Basic elements of stability theory of power systems are formulated. Investigations in the field of telecontrol and automatic circular relief of power systems are conducted.
New programming technology of applied software is developed for construction of automated working places and expert systems orientated towards creation of modern information-control systems, load-dispatching centres of electric power systems and big objects. The following developments are elaborated on the basis of elaborated theories and construction principles:
devices of electric power stations generators compound excitation for power systems stability increase and improvement of operating conditions of electrical installations;
new generation of primary transducers of electrical power engineering with standard characteristics in steady state and transient conditions, moreover current transducers for superhigh voltage and ultrahigh voltage power lines are elaborated for the first time in the world;
complexes of calculation programs of normal and emergency operation of complex electric power systems and unions;
complexes of analysis programs and optimum control of supplying and distributive networks modes;
automatic controllers of synchronous machines excitation;
new coding methods and signals detection with essential increase of reliability and noise immunity;
microprocessor systems of emergency operation parameters detection, events, analysis and diagnostics of equipment elements of distributive devices of power stations and transformer substations;
microprocessor systems of relay protection and automatic equipment of lines, power transformers, generators and also generator -transformer units;
complex of software of automated synthesis of applied programs for automated working places and expert systems of dispatcher and technological personnel of power systems and big objects.
The institute made a sufficient input into development of a general theory of measuring electric and electronic circuits. Scientific body under the leadership of corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences A.D.Nesterenko in 1947-1976 and Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences F.B.Grinevich in 1966-1992 has elaborated on the basis of this theory new construction principles of different types of super high accurate instruments for electric and magnetic measurements. New class of digital bridges is created, a series of standards is proposed. A number of the known scientists-doctors of sciences A.E. Andrievsky, A.1. Novik, A.D. Nizhensky, M.N. Surdu, etc. work within this scientific direction.
The institute developed theory, principles and efficient technical solutions of construction of high accurate unified. transducers and multichannel remotable information measuring systems. Devices with the improved technical data for remotable measuring of low -capacity and inductive-resistive four-pole sensors are created, specifically accuracy and remotability of measurement is increased in 10-20 times at resolving power up to 0,5 of millionth wich is increased to 40 kHz of tracking frequency of measuring value.
New in essence commutationless method of magnetic characteristics measurement with galvanomagnetic primary converters application is proposed. Automatic magnetomeasuring systems for determination of the simpliest magnets parameters are elaborated and introduced into industry on the basis of this method. Automatic devices for pulse magnetization control of constant magnets of high power materials are also elaborated on the basis of this method.
Theory and construction principles of adaptive transducers of information parameters of alternating current signals are elaborated, original phase-metering systems and instruments are created. Laser ranger systems based on high-accuracy measurement of phase shift of modulated direct and reverse high-accuracy signals are elaborated.
The following scientists work in this direction: doctor of sciences S.G. Taranov, cand. of sciences V.V. Braiko, etc.
On the basis of elaborated theories and construction principles the scientists elaborated the following:
devices for electric energy quality indices measurement 43203, 43204, 43250, 43401, etc.;
model three-phase electronic counters of electric energy of 0,5; 0,1; 0,05 class;
testameters with galvanomagnetic converters application Τ4300, Τ4354H, Τ4355, Τ4356, Τ4330, Ω4311, 43250;
installation with ferromagnetic converter wich permits to determine real static characteristics of modern high-coercive materials on the basis of rareearth elements.
Since 1987 the institute created a department of complex power systems with renewable power sources wich scientific direction is investigation of processes of generation, conversion, accumulation and utilization of renewable power sources and also development of power systems with complex utilization of wind, solar energy and the Earth heat. The founder of this scientific direction is a corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences G.I. Denisenko. The following scientists continue investigations of these subjects: corresponding member NAS of Ukraine V.F.Reztsov, doctor of sciences S.A.Kudrya.
Main directions of investigations:
Wind energy conversion into electric energy. Wind generator constructions in a range of 100 W up to 250 kW power are elaborated. Prototypes of wind generators and wind installations in a range of I 25 kW power are created.
The main efforts were directed to generating system creation for wind generators of 250 and 500 kW power by the design office "Yuzhnoe" (Dnepropetrovsk) wich stock windmill electric generating plants intended for operation with existing power system.
Nowadays investigations in the field of wind power are connected with a requirement of big power line-operated wind generators adaptation to autonomous operation conditions, with improvement of wind power conversion theory and refinement of elaborated computative methods providing essential reduction of specific overall dimensions and cost properties of wind power equipment, with solar energy conversion into thermal and electric one. New constructions of solar collectors with improved thermal and engineering parameters on the basis of thermal insulation system improvement and polymeric materials application are elaborated.
Interesting elaborations of the department are in the field of photo power photo batteries with stepwise changing volt-ampere characteristics for optimum matching of a source and a load, photothermal modules for simultaneous generation of thermal and electric energy.
Scientists of the department created engineering methods of calculation of ecologically clean systems with renewable power sources; power-economic analysis of power supply efficiency of health resort regions of the Crimea from renewable power sources is fulfilled; modulus photoelectric installation with 150 W power on the basis of silicon solar elements and a series of windmills with the total power of 50 kW are created and put into operation; system of energy accumulation and storage wich provides accumulation up to 2,0 thousand kW/h is developed and put into operation.
Many works of the institute's scientists received a high appreciation in our country: more than 50 scientific workers received ranks of the USSR and the Ukrainian State prize-winners in the field of science and engineering, prizes of G.F.Proskura, S.A. Lebedev, Honoured scientist of the Ukraine. About 30 scientific workers received prizes for young scientists. More than 100 elaborations of the institute are commended with prizes, diplomata and medals of the exhibitions of National Economic Achievements of the USSR and Ukraine, gold medal of Leipzig fair. A high level of the institute works is maintained by 2500 author certificates of the USSR and patents of foreign countries, nowadays patents of Ukraine.
Since 1979 the scientific journal "Tekhnicheskaya electrodynamika" is published wich gives a broad advertisement of scientific elaborations in this direction together with articles publication.
The main achievements of scientific activity of the institute are shown in monographs, preprints, subject collections.
The institute is basic. for scientific counsel of NAS of Ukraine on complex problem "Scientific bases of electrical power engineering". This problem is a basis for scientific seminars in all regions of the republic.
Specialized counsels on thesis defence and award of scientific degrees on seven professions function in the institute.
